Chile's Daylight Saving Time Change

2023 Implementation

Chile will observe Daylight Saving Time (DST) for 2023. This represents a change from the previous standard time observed in the country. The DST period will commence on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at 24:00 local time.

Implementation Details

At the designated start time of DST, all clocks in Chile should be advanced by one hour. This will result in an adjustment from UTC-4 to UTC-3, effectively "gaining" an hour of daylight. The new time zone will be known as Chile Summer Time (CLST).

The transition back to standard time, known as the Fall Back or Standard Time, is scheduled for Saturday, March 4, 2024, at 24:00 local time. At this point, clocks will be turned back by one hour, returning Chile to UTC-4.

Impact of DST

The implementation of DST aims to maximize daylight hours during the summer months. By adjusting the clocks forward by one hour, activities that typically occur outdoors or require natural light can be extended into the evening.

It's important for individuals and organizations in Chile to make necessary adjustments to their schedules, plans, and technological devices to accommodate the DST change. Failure to do so may result in confusion or missed appointments.
