Dallas Mavericks Trade Up in Second Round of 2024 NBA Draft

Mavs Select Melvin Ajinca with 51st Overall Pick

Trade Details and Analysis

The Dallas Mavericks have traded up seven spots in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft, according to multiple reports. The Mavericks acquired the 51st overall pick from the Washington Wizards and selected French center Melvin Ajinca with the pick.

To complete the trade, the Mavericks reportedly sent the 58th overall pick and a future second-round pick to the Wizards. The move gives the Mavericks an additional big man on their roster, as Ajinca joins Christian Wood and JaVale McGee in the frontcourt.

Ajinca is a 6'11'' center who played professionally in France before joining the NBA in 2012. He has spent time with the New Orleans Pelicans, Toronto Raptors, and New York Knicks during his career. Ajinca is known for his rebounding and shot-blocking abilities, and he provides the Mavericks with a solid defensive presence.

The Mavericks entered the draft with only the 58th overall selection, but the trade allows them to add a young player with potential to their roster. Ajinca may not be a star, but he can contribute to the team's defense and rebounding, which are areas where the Mavericks need improvement.
